They measure at 4″ tall when made with the hook and yarn listed. You can adjust the size by changing those materials: for small numbers = smaller hook and yarn, for larger numbers = larger hook and yarn.
Do you have a favorite number? Why not make it in a super bulky or chenille yarn and turn it into a pillow? You could do that by making two of the numbers, then holding them together, and single crocheting around the edges! Don’t forget the stuffing!
These crochet numbers are great for educational toys, personalizing gifts, and even making birthday banners! As a matter of fact, they were originally made to go with the Birthday Party Hat pattern!

What materials do I need?
To make the Crochet Numbers as shown, you will need worsted weight yarn in any fiber, a G/6/4.00mm crochet hook. I prefer 100% cotton yarn for stand alone numbers, because it’s stiffer and holds shape better, such as Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, Knit Picks Dishie, or Lily Sugar ‘n Cream. I use 100% acrylic when attaching them to the birthday party hats, such as Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice and Knit Picks Brava.
The Crochet Pattern

Notes
- Some numbers may need to be shaped slightly while attaching to your project.
- Beginning chains do not count as stitches
- For double digit birthdays, I suggest using a DK Weight.
- I used a mix of worsted weight 100% cotton yarns. Here are some of my favs:
Special Stitches
Extended Single Crochet (esc) = Insert hook in stitch indicated, draw up a loop, YO, pull through first loop on hook, YO, pull through both loops on hook. This is used in place of a double crochet when starting a row.

Please explain the abbreviation used on roe 13 – Alt.dc of the #2.
Hi Lupe!
Alt. dc = Alternate Double Crochet. This is a way to make a double crochet without having to make a chain stitch first.

Hey! So sorry I’m making these for a baby blanket and I don’t understand row 21 of number 8
21: ch 4, sc across, ch 1 and turn(3) do I sc in the chain and not the rest or do I skip the chain and sc in the rest?
Hello!
You would work only in the chain and not the remaining stitches.
